Megan Spencer

There's a whole new generation of musicians rewriting the rules, and Megan Spencer is right in the thick of it. Creative, driven and unafraid to do things her own way, the Los Angeles-based drummer is building a career that brings together musical talent, individuality and a genuine love for sharing what she does. Her journey began at eleven years old when, after years of studying classical piano, she decided it was time for something new. A few lessons from a drummer at her church were all it took to spark an obsession. Before long, she was spending hours behind the kit, developing the kind of passion that would turn a childhood interest into something much bigger.

That early determination carried straight into her education. By fifteen, Megan was already studying music at Citrus College while still attending high school, eventually earning her Associate's degree before turning eighteen. She went on to study Commercial Music Business at Azusa Pacific University, graduating at twenty and setting out to build a career doing what she loved. Teaching, performing and recording became part of her everyday world, each bringing a different perspective to her playing. But it was the decision to start recording drum covers from her home studio in 2020 that opened up an entirely new creative outlet. What began as a way to share her playing gradually grew into a platform for connecting with drummers and music fans far beyond her local scene.

Spend a little time watching Megan play and one thing becomes clear: she's not interested in being boxed into a single genre. Gospel, funk, pop, rock, Latin grooves, Afro-Cuban rhythms and even metal all find their way into her repertoire. Rather than simply playing along to familiar tracks, she often strips away the original drum parts and builds something entirely her own, adding fresh energy and personality to the music. It's an approach that's helped her develop a growing audience across Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, with individual performances reaching hundreds of thousands of people and beyond. Behind every clip are years of practice, experimentation and a willingness to keep creating, even when the results aren't immediate.

For Megan, the possibilities stretch far beyond the screen. Whether she's working with students, exploring ideas in the studio or putting her own spin on a song, the motivation comes from the same place: a genuine love of playing drums and sharing that excitement with others. Her approach brings together a respect for musical foundations with the confidence to experiment, a combination that sits comfortably within the Rogers family. She's helping show that there's more than one way to build a life in music, and that a creative voice can travel further than ever before. The stage might look different, but the feeling is just as real. No permission needed. Just passion, persistence and a sound worth sharing.
